Ear Candling Ear candles are used to remove excess ear wax, fungi and fat globules from the ear. The ear candle is shaped like a long tube with an inner opening similar to a straw. One end, with a protective inner seal, is placed snugly into the ear canal, while the other end is lite. Its entire surface burns like the wick of a regular candle. When the candle burns down to a certain distance, it is removed from the ear opening. During the procedure, a protection of a towel is used which covers the patient's head and hair. The patient is lying down on their side, head upon a pillow. After the procedure, the ear is washed with purified water.
The candle is made from cotton which is waxed. Excellent ear candles burn slowly, and do not throw off ash.
WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO HEAR?
The flame warms the air inside the cylinder, and produces a vacuum which sucks ear wax and other materials out of the ear. Crackling sounds, or sounds like a seashell, may be heard throughout the candling procedure. This is the wax coming out.
HOW MANY CANDLES ARE NEEDED?
The norm is 2-3 candles per ear at a given session. The first candle clears the canal, and starts pulling out impacted material. The second candle removes more. The third candle gets the larger pieces of wax.
